We’re working in Portland, in Victoria’s south west, to create more local economic opportunities and strengthen economic resilience.
With Portland and the wider Glenelg Shire having limited types of industries, it's important for us to work together with local government, businesses, industries, and the community to improve economic opportunities in the region.
The $17.4 million Portland Economic Diversification Plan is helping support projects that will grow and strengthen the local economy. These projects will focus on:
- Making the Portland and Glenelg Shire economy more resilient.
- Removing barriers to economic growth.
- Creating more job opportunities.
- Boosting business confidence for investing in the area.
- Support long-term economic growth through key projects and community-led solutions.
Bunnings to create new jobs in Portland
A city of just over 11,000 people, Portland’s main industries currently focus on supporting Portland Aluminium and the agriculture and forestry industries.
As part of the Portland Economic Diversification Plan, works are underway to build a new $2.5 million employment precinct, supporting the city’s development as a major economic centre for south west Victoria.
Bunnings Warehouse has signed on as an anchor tenant for the precinct, demonstrating Portland’s potential for growth and driving jobs during construction and once the store is open.
The development is expected to attract investment from other major companies and businesses, creating sustainable jobs and growth into the future.
