Building new homes for thousands of regional workers

11/10/2024

Regional workers in key sectors are set to benefit from new housing and accommodation projects across the state.

We’re supporting new projects through Round 1 of the $150 million Regional Worker Accommodation Fund. The projects will provide more housing in communities where workers are struggling to find places to live, and where businesses can’t attract the workers they need.

The fund is supporting rural and regional communities to have the right skills, workforce and infrastructure to thrive.

Across the state, the projects will unlock almost $250 million in combined private and public sector investment in new developments.

The projects include a mix of self-contained units, worker villages, family dwellings and shared accommodation for vital workers across health, agriculture, education, manufacturing and tourism sectors.

In Shepparton, Goulburn Valley Health will build 15 apartments on site at the Shepparton Hospital for doctors and health staff. The new apartments will free up housing supply for the local rental market and other key sectors in the region.

The new apartments will help Goulburn Valley Health support their workforce by providing fit-for-purpose accommodation on site. The project will help them attract and retain more health professionals in the region.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund is one of the ways we’re supporting regional communities to be even better places to live and work.
