03/07/2023Jetsetters can enjoy a new departure lounge in Bendigo with works well underway to deliver the Bendigo Airport Terminal Expansion thanks to support from the Victorian Government.
The departure lounge is now complete which is the first stage of the Bendigo Airport Terminal Expansion.
The new terminal is on track for completion in December and will be almost four times larger to deliver more space for thousands of additional passengers.
The Victorian Government is backing the expansion of the terminal with $4.5 million in funding. It’s part of the City of Greater Bendigo’s broader Bendigo Airport terminal precinct upgrade.
Airline staff are now operating from the new building with the departure lounge, cafe, screening area, restrooms, office space and equipment shed now complete.
The old terminal building will be demolished in August paving the way for construction of the terminal building’s next area which will feature an entry foyer, security screening, baggage check-in and baggage claim areas. The airport will remain operational throughout the course of the works.
The airport terminal upgrade is generating up to 45 jobs during construction. Works are being carried out by Nicholson Construction, which specialises in public buildings construction in regional Victoria.
The new airport terminal will support Greater Bendigo’s growing population which is project to reach 155,000 in 2036.
The project is part of the Victorian Government’s record investment of more than $41 billion across rural and regional Victoria since 2015.
