A much-loved tourist attraction is on track to keep entertaining visitors to the Bellarine Peninsula this summer.

Contractors have finished maintenance works on Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway’s buildings.

The Railway's station and signal box were weathered and time-worn due to their coastal location.

Funding from the $20 million Tiny Towns Fund meant they could be repainted and repaired.

This $21,000 grant meant volunteers who operate the Railway could contract the works to local tradespeople.

That allowed them to focus on providing affordable family entertainment.

Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway is Geelong’s only 7.25 and 5 inch miniature railway.

It is Australia's only miniature railway on a foreshore, overlooking the beaches of Portarlington.

Trains run on the first and third Sunday of every month and more often during school and summer holidays.

Volunteers have operated the Railway for 25 years.

This year is the ninth anniversary of the current volunteer group’s operations.

The Tiny Towns Fund backs community-driven projects that enhance our smallest towns and strengthen community connections.

The Fund encourages more visitors to all corners of Victoria to make it a better place to live, work, stay and play.
