Hundreds of new car spaces at Ballarat Base Hospital
06/09/2024Hundreds of free public car spaces are now available at the Ballarat Base Hospital as part of an ongoing investment in the thriving regional town.
The extension to the multi-level car park has added 400 new public car spaces across four new levels of the hospital car park.
Around 50 jobs were created during construction of the car park, with local materials used and new lifts installed to support accessible access to parking across all eight levels.
The new car park is operated by Grampians Health and is funded through the Regional Car Park Fund, delivered alongside the $655 million Ballarat Base Hospital Redevelopment funded by the Victorian Government.
Grampians Health is providing free parking for staff until Christmas, with patients and visitors able to access free parking into the future.
Long term operational details for the 400 new public car spaces, such as time limits, will be confirmed in 2025 to ensure the new spaces remain accessible for the whole community.
The new spaces at Ballarat Base Hospital are part of the Government’s commitment to deliver more than 2,000 car spaces in and around Ballarat’s CBD by 2026.
This includes almost 1,400 free spaces to allow locals to park closer to where they want to go, with easier access to public transport, shopping and services.
Close to 150 car spaces have already been completed in Ballarat’s CBD under the Victorian Government’s Regional Car Parks Fund with another 900 delivered under the Ballarat Station Redevelopment and the Council’s Smart Car Parking Program.
A further 120 car spaces will be made available for public use underneath the Ballarat GovHub from 2025.
