Linking two of Timboon’s iconic tourist sites
13/08/2024Visitors to Timboon in the Twelve Apostles hinterland will be able to enjoy easier access to the town’s award-winning gourmet sweets and spirits, tourist sites and lush open spaces.
A new footbridge across Power Creek is now complete, backed by the local community to increase connections in the small town and attract more visitors.
The new footbridge links two of the town’s iconic tourist attractions – Timboon Fine Ice Cream and the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery.
The connection between the two businesses will provide safe pedestrian and rail trail user access and enables better access to the adjoining land.
Both businesses are part of the Twelve Apostles Food Artisan Trail, which promotes and provides access to boutique food producers on the Shipwreck Coast and surrounds.
New pathways to access the bridge and picnic tables have been constructed and installed to enhance the visitor experience in Timboon and bring the precinct to life.
Timboon volunteers backed the project, and 35 community members came together to plant 850 native plants and grasses to replace noxious, invasive weeds around Power Creek during a community action day.
Construction and installation of the footbridge created 10 new jobs. Upgrades to the surrounding area are expected to have a range of flow-on economic benefits for the small town.
The bridge was an investment from the Geelong City Deal’s Private Sector Business Enablement Fund (PSBEF). It was also with support from Timboon Fine Ice Cream, Timboon Railway Shed Distillery, Beach Energy, Power Creek Committee of Management, Heytesbury Landcare, the local Mens Shed and Lions Club and Corangamite Shire Council.
