Streetscapes transformed in five Mallee towns
27/02/2024Five towns across the Buloke Shire have received a streetscape facelift and are now more welcoming to visitors.
The Buloke Shire Streetscape Renewal project has delivered upgrades across Birchip, Wycheproof, Charlton, Donald and Sea Lake’s streetscapes to support the visual appeal and upkeep of each town.
The upgrades ensure the local towns are attractive and vibrant places for local businesses to set up shop and expand, while encouraging more visitors to stop by. The project supported 14 jobs during construction.
New additions include Birchip’s alfresco dining area to sample local food including the town’s award-winning vanilla slice. Footpath and drainage upgrades are improving access to the town’s shops.
In Charlton, a new pedestrian walkway has been installed over the Avoca River. A newly refurbished Travellers Rest Caravan Park in Charlton has been delivered. This includes a barbecue shelter with picnic tables, all accessible toilets and a children’s play area.
Sea Lake’s Apex Park received an upgrade with an electric barbecue to bring families and friends together and enjoy the outdoors.
In Wycheproof, Donald and Sea Lake, electric vehicle charging stations were installed to support the increasing number of electric vehicle owners visiting the Mallee region.
Other works include planting trees in the five towns and infrastructure upgrades including new footpaths, crossings, bike racks and outdoor seating.
The works add to Buloke Shire’s position as a key destination in regional Victoria, linking to other attractions including the Silo Art Trail that stretches across towns like Sea Lake.
